Better Broadband Scheme for Scotland

Better Broadband Scheme for Scotland

Connecting Scotland

Scotland, the northernmost country in the UK, is composed of highlands, mountains, valleys and wilderness. Surrounded by isles, the population is split by unforgiving terrain, making it very difficult to get a decent broadband connection.

Reliable access to the internet is an important part of everyday life, whether it’s at home or work. In fact, the United Nations has declared internet access a basic human right.

If you have a broadband speed of less than 2Mbps, then you could qualify for the Better Broadband Scheme and claim £350 towards the setup costs for satellite broadband.

The Better Broadband Scheme

The UK government developed the Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme to provide subsidised access to broadband installations for homes and businesses that are unable to access a broadband service with a download speed of at least 2Mbps and won’t benefit from the rollout of Scotland’s Superfast Broadband.

How Satellite Broadband Can Help

Satellite broadband, unlike regular wired broadband, isn’t bound by location and where you live won’t affect the speed of your connection. By using a satellite dish, you can gain a two-way access to broadband services in some of the most remote areas of the world.

How to Claim

Just claim your BDUK or similar local authority code and process your order online, and we’ll take care of the rest. First, we will need to validate your code, which is linked to your postcode before the installation can take place. Normally, validation of the code and installation takes within 10 days of placing your order.

If you don’t quite meet the requirements, then please consult our speed guide for tips on increasing your broadband speed.

BDUK - Department for Culture Media and Sport

The Government has committed to giving access to 2Mbps download speed to every premise in the UK by the end of 2015. As part of this commitment Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) are delivering a satellite broadband subsidy scheme through a number of UK Local Bodies.

This scheme will help with a contribution towards the equipment and installation of a satellite broadband connection.

For further details please visit the following BDUK website:

If you have already been given an eligibility code by your Local Body then please contact us. We will validate your code with the issuing Local Body and then confirm your order details.

If you don’t have an eligibility code then please either contact your Local Body, or visit the BDUK website using the link shown above, to check whether you can take advantage of the scheme.

Important Note: Please ensure you have your BDUK Code before placing your order. Your code cannot be applied retrospectively after your installation has been completed.

Many thanks for choosing Broadband Wherever
